Transitions Xtra Active
Please read the description below then choose the appropiate lens upgrade prior to clicking "Add to Cart". This option is for the Transitions Xtra Active Only. There are other Transitions variations available to suit the wearer's needs.
Description/Use: Much like "Kleenex" is used synonymously with "Tissue", Photochromatic lenses are often referred to as Transitions...however, Transitions are a brand name!
To avoid confusion, we list only the most popular options under the "Lens Options" tab which are: Neochromes, Transitions Standard, Transitions Xtra Active and Transitions Vantage. To order any others listed below, please call us to place your order.
All options for photochromatic lenses include:
1. Transitions Standard: These are the original Transitions brand photochromatic lenses. They use UV radiation to adapt to the light. These lenses have a light tint indoors to reduce glare from indoor lights and darken to a medium sunglass when outdoors. Please Note: Vehicles made after 1983 have a UV strip in the windshield to reduce the UV exposure. As a result, these lenses will not reach the maximum darkness while in your vehicle.
2. Transitions Xtra Active: Transitions came out with the Xtra Active lens in response to customer reviews. While this lens still has a light tint indoors, it gets much darker outdoors AND it uses the latest technology to allow a color darkness change to occur inside modern vehicles.
3. Neochromes: Neochromes are not made by the Transitions Brand. However, as a photochromatic lens, they also adapt to light similarly. They transition from light to dark up to 2x faster and are a less expensive option to the brand names well recognized.
4. Transitions Vantage: In our opinion, the Vantage is one of the most surprising innovative lenses of our time. This lens not only includes the light adaptive qualities of the photochromatic lenses but as it changes from Light to Dark it also becomes a Polarized Lens! Polarized lenses reduce glare to the maximum extent available in a single benefit. These lenses are often referred to as a "Fisherman's Sunglass" as it reduces the glare on the top of the water so much that one is able to see into the water versus seeing the reflections from the sun, sky or other.
Other lenses we carry as Specialty Lenses are below. Please call to order these lenses:
5. Transitions Next Gen Signature 8 Series: Again in response to customer reviews, Transitions offers a newer line of photochromatic lenses available i a wider range of colors such as Aqua/Blue, Green, Rose and more in addition to the standard colors. These lenses also get almost 100% clear indoors and become a dark sunglass outdoors.
6. Transitions Drivewear: A photochromatic colored lens made to adapt to various driving conditions. This lens does not lighten beyond a light sunglass and is meant for driving only.
7. Transitions Style Mirrors: Just when you think they thought of everything! This new transition lens adapts to light ranging from clear indoors to a mirror coated sunglass lens when outdoors!
What is the difference?
Photochromatic lenses are much more than something that allows your clear lenses to turn into sunglasses when you go outdoors! It is a light adaptive, digital blue blocking, premium quality overall enhancement to your vision! When photochromatic lenses first hit the market they were made of glass. These lenses were not really clear indoors but turned pretty dark outdoors. When the brand Transitions offered the lighter weight competition available in plastic, they too adapted to light. While many loved the benefits, they suffered some negative feedback too. They got almost clear indoors but not very dark outdoors.
All photochromatic lenses also block digital blue light -so do not let your optical company charge you extra for this feature as many do! They all include UV protection too! Photochromatic lenses have features that are beneficial and the various types differ by which features that lens focuses on! No pun intended!
Transitions (Regular): These photochromatic lenses are the original light adaptive lenses that were first introduced as a plastic alternative. While they do offer many benefits, there are newer versions of these lenses that enhance the vision in one aspect moreso over others. These lenses have a light tint indoors and adapt using UV light. They change to a medium sunglass lens but will not change in a car made after 1983 as cars now have UV filters built in them. To acheieve a faster transition, darker lens or have lenses that change better in your car please visit other alternatives to this photochromatic lens option.
