Polycarbonate Lenses (Thin, Light-Weight, Impact Resistant)
Click "Add to Cart" if you would like your lenses to be made of Polycarbonate material. Not Sure? Read Below...
Advantages: Thinner, Light Weight & Impact Resistant
Disadvantages: Wearer is likely to notice some peripheral distortion (depending on the prescription and wearer, a "foggy" appearance can be noticed at the edges of the lenses)
Description/Use: Oddly enough, lenses in our "glasses" are rarely ever made of glass! Instead we use a material called CR-39, a type of plastic. Polycarbonate is another option for making lenses too.
Primary Benefit: It is most commonly used for its durability and impactresistance - like "bullet proof glass", this material can withstand the impact of a .22 caliber rifle from just 20ft away - Do not try this at home! For this reason, many doctors prescribe polycarbonate as "medically necessary" for patients with vision in one eye in order to protect the vision remaining. In many states, minors are required to have polycarbonate lenses.
Additional Benefits: Polycarbonate is lighter weight than CR-39. Also due to a higher index of refraction, polycarbonate can make your prescription look thinner!
Other options:
Super Light Weight Hi-Index 1.67
Ultra Light-Weight Hi-Index 1.74
Prescribed For: Anyone
